The Journey Home

Image
For thousands of travelers, Santa Fe, New Mexico was the end of the line after months of a treacherous and sometimes deadly journey, yet to them, it offered hope and a start of a new home.   The Santa Fe Trail was mainly established as a commercial transportation route, but soon became a main wagon trail thoroughfare for Americans traveling from Missouri, in search of owning large parcels of land and a freedom they could not find at home.  According to Wikipedia, “ Travelers faced many hardships along the Santa Fe Trail. The trail was a challenging 900 miles of arid plains, desert, and mountains. The natural climate was and is continental: very hot and dry summers, coupled with long and bitterly cold winters. Freshwater was scarce, and the high steppe-like plains are nearly treeless. ” Of course before the influx of people from the east, Indigenous Americans lived in this region for hundreds of years and they still flourish there to this day.  The city itsel...

Petrified Forest

Image
There are not enough words to describe what an amazing place the Petrified Forest National Park is.  You will just have to experience it in person to really take in all its beauty.  Located just off the 40 freeway near Holbrook, AZ, it has everything from 225 million year old petrified trees, blue mesa’s and painted hills.  Truly a one-of-a-kind place.  Here are some pictures from my adventure there last weekend.

Taking Breaks

Image
I am back after a little over a month of not posting.  I decided I needed a break so I took one.  I have the luxury of doing so with my profession but I do recommend that everyone, whether you work a full-time job, attending school, or whatever your situation is, make sure you take the time for yourself to rejuvenate and focus on new goals and of course, the future.    Photo Notes: Golden Gate Bridge | San Francisco, CA | August 2014 | iPhone 5s

Flowers

Image
Some flowers are more intricate than others but they all do one thing for me; bring me immense amounts of joy.  It doesn’t matter if I am on a hike, vacation or just going to the grocery store, if I see a flower then I have to stop and take a picture and admire something that will only be around a short time.  “Minds are like flowers; they open only when the time is right.” – Stephen Richards Photo Notes: Ko Olina | Kapolei, HI | May 2017 | iPhone 6s Plus

Road Trip

Image
I think that road trips are the great American pastime.  While there are so many great things to explore within your own city, a road trip allows you to expand your adventures whether you are traveling an hour away or across the country.  Just pack a bag or two, hop in your car and take off for parts unknown.   For me, there is usually a lot of planning involved in my road trips and I like doing them alone.  Mainly because you are on your own time schedule and don’t have to worry about others needs and wants.  However, back in October 2018, I was visiting friends in Manteca, CA and they suggested a sort of spur of the moment road trip to Yosemite once they found out I had never been.  It was a fairly short drive, about two hours each way.  The road we chose to Yosemite was steep and winding up and then down the mountains, but once you turned the final curve and happened upon the Half Dome View Point, it was all worth it!  From that moment...

Open the Door

Image
I will always remember the time a coworker dumbfounded me with one simple sentence.  It happened a while ago, almost ten years now, but it has stuck with me ever since.   I was working at a museum when a visitor asked me where a certain neighborhood was that she had heard about in a local guidebook and if I had any recommendations of what to do and where to eat in said neighborhood.  I excitedly explained about the great restaurants to enjoy and art galleries to explore and where it was in relation to the museum, which happened to be on the other side of the museum, no more than a five-minute drive away.  I also delved into the overall vibe of the neighborhood with its 1920’s architecture, cool boutique shops and bookstores all of which I knew first hand since I had explored the neighborhood a few days after I started my employment at the museum.  I love exploring different neighborhoods, especially ones I live in or work near.  After the visitor t...

Jeremy The...Photographer, The Traveler, The Foodie, The Blogger?

Image
You can call me whatever you want, however I only answer to Jeremy. The sum of my parts equal more than who I am. I have a right down the middle personality which leads to many uncertainties in my life but I do know that I enjoy taking photos of nature, architecture food and beverages. I like clean lines and a minimalistic sense of style. People keep telling me I should start a blog so here we go. These are my memories, my daily activities in photos and words.  Photo Notes: Yosemite, CA | October 2018 | Taken from a moving car using an iPhone X
